(Springfield, GA) November 1st is the deadline for local taxpayers to apply to make a charitable contribution to Effingham Health System and receive a 2017 Georgia income tax credit of up to 90% of their contribution. The Georgia General Assembly made this opportunity available through its implementation, and recent enhancement, of the Georgia Rural Hospital Expense Tax Credit program. Taxpayers who itemize may also receive a federal charitable income tax deduction.
“This is an opportunity for the citizens of Effingham and the surrounding area to assure their taxes stay in our community, helping us improve delivery of healthcare for local people,” said Fran Baker-Witt, Chief Executive Officer of Effingham Health System.
If you pay Georgia income taxes, you may be eligible to receive a 2017 tax credit for contributing to Effingham Health System as follows:
• Individual Filer – 90% of the amount contributed or $5,000 per tax year, whichever is less
• Married Filing Jointly – 90% of the amount contributed or $10,000, whichever is less
• C-Corporation or Trust – 90% of the amount contributed or 75% of your Georgia income tax liability, whichever is less
“We are very pleased and appreciative that Georgia lawmakers understand the importance to our rural hospitals and communities of the success of this innovative program,” said Mrs. Baker-Witt.
Potential donors can sign up to get pre-approved for the tax credit by completing and submitting the 2017 HEART Tax Credit Form at www.georgiaheart.org. Don’t forget to choose Effingham Health System as your Designated Rural Hospital Organization. Deadline to submit an application for the 2017 tax year is November 1, 2017.
The pre-approval form is also downloadable on Effingham Health System’s website: www.effinghamhealth.org/tax-credit. Email the form to email@example.com or mail a completed copy of the form to: Georgia HEART at 3740 Davinci Court, Suite 375, Peachtree Corners, Georgia 30092.
Georgia HEART will take care of the rest, submitting your tax credit pre-approval request to the Department of Revenue, notifying you of approval and payment deadline, and – once you contribute – providing you with your taxpayer reporting instructions.
Effingham Health System is one of 40 rural hospitals participating in the Georgia HEART Hospital Program, which provides marketing and administrative services to qualified hospitals. “Georgia HEART makes it incredibly easy for donors to get pre-approved for the credit and make their donation, and for our hospital to keep track of contribution activity,” explained Mrs. Baker-Witt.
Each year, during 2017, 2018, and 2019, taxpayers will have access to a $60 million pool of credits, with donors to each rural hospital having access to up to $4 million of credits each year until the annual $60 million cap is reached.
