Dr. Christopher J. Mathews Returns to Effingham Family Medicine

Effingham Family Medicine is excited to announce that Dr. Christopher J. Mathews is returning to practice at our EFM Rincon location. Dr. Mathews recently retired as a Colonel from the U.S. Airforce, serving most recently as Commander of the Aerospace Medicine Squadron at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma.

Dr. Mathews worked with Effingham Family Medicine from 2008-2012, while serving with the Air National Guard. He left Effingham to go active duty as Chief of Flight Medicine at Buckley Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado.

Before joining Effingham Family Medicine in 2008, Dr. Mathews was U.S. Army, serving as Battalion Surgeon for 1st Ranger Battalion and then Chief of Family Practice at Ft. Stewart, Georgia.

During his combined 25 years in the military, Dr. Mathews deployed four times to Iraq and Afghanistan, with his last deployment in 2014.

Dr. Mathews is a board-certified physician through the American Board of Family Medicine. He completed medical school at the Uniformed Services University of Health Science in Bethesda, Maryland, serving his internship and residency at Martin Army Community Hospital at Fort Benning, Georgia.
