EHS Breaks Ground on New Medical Complex in South Effingham County

Thursday, June 26th — At an event filled with federal, state, and county political and healthcare representatives, Effingham Health System announced and broke ground for a new Medical Complex to be located in South Effingham County. The complex will be located on a 33-acre site at the corner of Goshen Road and the new Effingham Parkway.

The Groundbreaking event marks the Kickoff to engage the public in a collaborative planning process for the new facility, which will include outpatient care and specialty medical services. Construction will begin after the opening of the Effingham Parkway.

“Today, we stand together to mark a transformative moment in the history of Effingham Health System,’ expressed Dr. Witt,  ‘This Medical Complex will embody the next generation of our healthcare system.”

Through this commitment, we are building on the strength of our position as a healthcare provider invested in this community.

Dr. Witt emphasized that this new Medical Complex will not replace the current hospital, but rather is an expansion; a long-term strategic commitment to growth, innovation, and excellence in care delivery. It will provide space to attract specialty providers, many of whom have expressed interest in working with Effingham Health System, as well as for new healthcare and community partnerships.

The location on the new Effingham Parkway will enhance access to healthcare for the entire region, including the rapidly growing southern part of the county. It will extend beyond county lines to serve neighboring communities.

“Our goal is to be the provider of choice for this county and this region.”

“ I believe what we see here in Effingham County, with progress in our health system, is a model for success…for not only Georgia but our nation.”

  • Jon Burns, Speaker, Georgia House of Representatives

“It’s essential infrastructure. As our county and neighboring communities continue to grow at an incredible pace, the need for robust healthcare services becomes even more critical.”

  • Damon Rahn, Chairman, Effingham County Board of Commissioners

“This new medical complex strategically delivers on the Board’s promise to uphold our mission and values…aligning resources for the betterment of our Effingham County community.”

  • Stephanie Johnson, Effingham Health System Board of Directors

FAQ

Is this new Medical Complex replacing the existing hospital?

No, this is NOT replacing our hospital. We are currently optimizing our existing Health System footprint and require additional space to continue expanding outpatient care and specialty medicine services to meet the rapidly growing needs of this county. This is the next phase of our strategic growth.

What do we mean by Medical Complex?
This complex will focus on outpatient and specialty services.

We have specialty providers interested in practicing here, and we need space to accommodate them. This will enable us to attract new partnerships, both in healthcare and non-healthcare sectors.

Why this location?
We are proud to be strategically located on this new parkway, providing easy access for the entire county. We purchased this property in 2020, and with the growth in South Effingham, it is an ideal location for expansion.

Why are you making this announcement now?
This event represents notification to the community of our strategy to accommodate local growth and serves as the Kickoff to engage the community in our planning process.

What is driving the start of the construction date?
The start of construction is contingent on the completion of the Effingham Parkway. At this point, we expect it to start in 2027.

What is the Cost? Which Services will be included? How many new jobs will it create?
That will be determined in the planning process and as we do due diligence, according to the outcomes of that process.
